I know what you’re thinking. Kara, we warned you.
DO NOT MARRY A LOCAL AND BRING HIM HOME.
I heard you, I did, but this Salvadoran was just so…unreal.
Did you actually believe me? You really think I would find someone in two weeks?
Come on. Give me a break people.
Though during our last volunteer panel, a girl suggested to our group for the women especially if you are single to have a boyfriend, a made up boyfriend. Basically, create a lovely boyfriend who lives in the states and will never visit you. The young women suggested this as then the people in your community will stop trying to constantly set you up with any hombre (man) that is ten years older or younger than you are currently. It also sets the standard that you are with someone and there’s less cat calling (how some men flirt here) because you are unavailable and overall there is less fuss over many attempts for your loving and warm community to find you a nice Salvadorian Novio (boyfriend in Spanish).
So here is your mission. I am open to suggestions for my “made up” boyfriend. Someone that is realistic and actually believable. Please do not tell me that I should tell everyone in my community that I am actually dating a guy who works for the US Embassy in the capital and lives to bungee jump in his spare time and is the fastest man in the world to kill chickens by hand in less than 20 seconds.
I will end up being asked for favors for visas to the US and probably be given every freakin’ chicken in town to kill since my “novio” knows best and probably taught me. No thanks. So that is your challenge.
I simply need a name, what he is currently doing in the United States, where he lives, and whatever else you want to come up with. I figure I try to be as creative as possible with my blog titles; you can attempt to be creative in making up my imaginary boyfriend.
Ready, set, GO!
*You can either comment for suggestions, or e-mail me. Either way works!
"Rodrigo" is the new love of your life. He is a hot-dog ("salchicha") salesman from Bumblebee, Arizona.
ReplyDeleteSeeing no other suggestions, I assume you will use mine! You're welcome!
Love your blog!
His name is James-he is currently starting his second year in law school (which is perfect timing since you will be gone for 2 years) He is Jewish, from the East Coast but is going to Law School in Seattle since he has never experienced the Northwest and wants to see something new. He enjoys hiking, coffee and the occasional good book when he can find time away from his rigorous law studies. He can't wait to hear about all of your adventures and would kill chickens for you upon request.
ReplyDeletelove you!! love the pics and glad all is going well!!
xoxo
